First Look at HBO’s Harry Potter Main Character

The Harry Potter TV remake is currently in production, and HBO has released an early look at the main character. HBO Max expects season one of the new series, starring Dominic McLaughlin as the titular Harry Potter, to air in 2027. Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger will join McLaughlin in the cast.

Along with the announcement that filming has begun, HBO shared a behind-the-scenes photo showing McLaughlin dressed as Harry Potter. Just like in the books, the actor wears iconic round glasses and a Hogwarts uniform with tousled hair.

Although many actors have been announced to play Harry Potter in the upcoming TV series, HBO’s first look at McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived marks a major turning point in the production. Once we finalize the appearance of the main character, we can start filming, allowing HBO to meet its 2027 release window for the first season.

Other actors who made it for the casting are Rory Wilmot, who will play Neville Longbottom; Amos Kitson, who will portray Dudley Dursley; Louise Brealey, who will take on Madam Hooch; and Anton Lesser, who will portray Garrick Ollivander.

These announcements indicate that the Harry Potter remake on HBO is close to finishing. When viewers see his first photo in the role, it is obvious that McLaughlin resembles Harry Potter. It’s hard to imagine someone else playing the part after decades of Daniel Radcliffe being linked to it. However, it’s comforting to see that McLaughlin keeps the same lively energy as the original Harry Potter cast.

It’s interesting to note that HBO has long since abandoned the well-known costume. McLaughlin wears a reddish sweater under his black robes, a slight departure from Gryffindor colors in Hogwarts attire. Coincidentally, it also seems that Harry’s scar has been moved from the center of his forehead to the side. It’s clear immediately who this character is supposed to be. When the Harry Potter TV series debuts in 2027, fans will likely quickly embrace this version of the Boy Who Lived. We’ll have to wait and see how the story affects other characters.
