Operating as an online Mediterranean food concept in Pasig, Abba Grill and Deli focuses on dishes that celebrate Mediterranean cuisine, Indo-Mediterranean flavors, and artisanal deli grazing boards.

Behind the concept are Don and Ivery, a husband-and-wife team who transformed a spontaneous idea into a culinary project that highlights grilled kebabs and Mediterranean deli traditions.

The Culinary Story Behind Abba Grill and Deli

The idea for Abba Grill and Deli Pasig came unexpectedly in late 2025 while Don was at work. The thought of starting a restaurant lingered with him until it eventually became a shared vision with his wife, Ivery.

Rather than creating a business solely for profit, the couple envisioned Abba Grill and Deli as a space for creative cooking, culinary experimentation, and authentic Mediterranean flavors.

Don is the culinary force behind the brand. A culinary graduate and professional chef, he gained experience working in restaurants and hotels in Boracay and Manila. His background in Mediterranean spices, grilling techniques, and meat preparation laid the foundation for signature dishes like Chicken Kebab and Beef Kofta Kebab.

Ivery complements the kitchen expertise with creativity and storytelling. A writer and former English professor, she first discovered her love for cheeses, charcuterie, and deli grazing boards at a delicatessen near the university where she once taught.

Together, their combined passions shaped Abba Grill and Deli into an Indo-Mediterranean food concept, blending grilled kebabs with curated Mediterranean grazing platters.

Interestingly, I unknowingly contacted Abba Grill and Deli without realizing who the owners were. Don and Ivery have actually been longtime acquaintances of mine in another industry for decades. Whether it was coincidence or serendipity, the timing felt perfect.

A Mediterranean Grazing Concept Born from Creativity

One of the most distinctive elements of Abba Grill and Deli is its Mediterranean grazing platter concept.

Inspired by Ivery’s love for deli boards and charcuterie, the idea came naturally when Don began talking about kebabs, kofta, and souvlaki.

Instead of a traditional charcuterie board, Ivery envisioned a Mediterranean grazing spread that could pair beautifully with grilled meats.

The result was a grazing board filled with:

  • Creamy hummus
  • Flatbreads and pita
  • Grapes and dates
  • Flavorful chutneys
  • Goat and sheep cheeses
  • Mediterranean spices and dips

“You know,” Ivery said, “I think I can make a Mediterranean grazing board to match your kebabs. That’s certainly different from the typical charcuterie boards.”

This creative pairing of Mediterranean kebabs and grazing platters became one of the defining ideas behind Abba Grill and Deli Pasig.

Quirk:

When Don and Ivery were searching for a name for their restaurant concept, they wanted something rooted in Mediterranean culture.

They eventually chose “Abba,” an Aramaic word meaning “father.”

The name carries deep personal meaning for Don. He lost his father in a car accident when he was still a toddler, and growing up he often felt guided by a spiritual sense of fatherhood.

Now a father himself, Don embraces that role fully within his own family.

“Abba,” much like papa or daddy, expresses a close bond between parent and child. Through Abba Grill and Deli, Don channels that nurturing spirit into food—creating meals meant to feed, comfort, and bring people together.

“If we became rich… I would set up a restaurant with spices and a grill,” says  Don. When he mentioned kebabs, kofta, and souvlaki, Ivery imagined a grazing spread with hummus, curries, flatbreads, grapes, dates, chutneys, and goat and sheep cheeses instead of cows.
